Farm Nouveau by a Fancy Farm Girl
Fancy Farm Girl Designs is previewing at local farmers markets and here on my website!
I imagine ladies that lived on the prairie during the 1920's to 1930's. A trip to town meant they might get a glimpse of a fashion magazine or catalog. Maybe a quick sketch and a couple yards of fabric, the farmgirl was ready to work on her new creation. Soon those beautiful French styles were replicated with calico and homespun fabrics from the dry goods store.
That's the feeling behind my designs. The skirts are based on a bell dress pattern from the early 30's. I made it into a drawstring waist. The original pattern was A line, with pin tucks and a split fabric hem. The tucks give the skirt a bit of drop on the sides. I added a large pocket for gathering. Feed sacks seem to be just right, although some skirts feature smaller drawstring bags too.
A few accessories, hand painted and hand stamped on little drawstring pouches with replica advertising labels...
How about a simple apron?...
Another fun fashion that has been added is what I call "Jammeralls". Comfortable, roomy, overalls that feel like jammies...
